1- This is how the
kitchen looked when we started the project.
2- There was an empty
corner where the kitchen counter ended.
3- Another picture of
empty corner.
4- There was a wet bar in
opposite side of the counter. The wet bar was too long for the large
refrigerator to fit properly in place.
5- A picture of the old
sink.
6- First we removed the
old counter top and old sink. At this stage we did not touch the wet bar so
that owners have access to a sink and to the refrigerator.
7- Then we covered the
counters with two layers of MDF. Traditionally for tiling a counter,
contractors use one layer of plywood and one layer of hard backing. But two
layers of MDF provides a better and stiffer surface and a perfect height for type of
counter edging that was selected.
8- After counter tops were
installed, we set the tiles. tiles selected by the owners were 12x12" white tiles
with black boarders.
9- We added a counter in
the empty corner of the kitchen just below its window and tiled that too.
10- Picture shows the
tiles grouted, back splash is installed and oven is temporary put in place
for owners to have a working kitchen during weekend.
11- New counter is such a
pleasant place that was immediately put to work as breakfast nock.
12- Sink and Faucet are
installed and ready to be used. Dishwasher in this picture was not installed
yet. we had to wait and lay the floor tiles first. The paint smeared on top
dishwasher door was not done by us. It was done by the homeowner few years
earlier attempting to paint his own kitchen cabinets.
13- After we were done
with the kitchen counter, we started the wet bar counter. This picture
reveals how the plumbing were after we moved the refrigerator.
14- We moved the wet bar
counter, opened the wall, re-routed the plumbing to inside the wall. we also
added a new valve for refrigerator.
15- After fixing the
plumbing, we closed the wall and floated the new piece, made it ready to be
textured and painted.
